Melania's hat came with a complementary Chicago Typewriter.

Maybe they should make booth seats lift up to store hats inside

That would certainly be handy.

I’m going to be a bit contrarian. The military instilled in me the etiquette of taking a hat off indoors, and it’s still a sore subject with me when I see grown men wearing hats in a restaurant, especially baseball caps. And more especially when it’s older men who should know better. I view it as a sign of the moral decay of our society, where manners have been slowly eroded over time.

But I’m not much of a hat person anyway.

As much as I would like to disagree with you, and feel that I have a good leg to stand on in doing so, likely you'll never actually see me wear a hat in a restaurant. It's just too ingrained in me not to do so.

But, I think I'm softening on my stance of other men doing so.

Still really pisses me off at funerals and the national anthem though.

I’ll allow that explanation but what’s with the baseball hat so pulled down at the presser in LA? I don’t love it

Agreed. Especially with the coat and sunglasses. Going for some kind of 'secret agent' thing or something?

This is fascinating, I have no idea of hat etiquette. I liked her hat, though I was surprised when I first saw it!

Yeah, I thought it looked great, but I too was surprised to see it. Hiding the eyes behind a huge brim was certainly an unexpected look.

Yes, indeed. And perhaps freeing. I think I would like to wear one and hide my eyes occasionally 😁

It would be that. Our eyes do tend to give away so much!

My husband wears a hat everywhere because he’s bald, and with a hat on he looks a lot better. He wears newspaper boy hats and ski caps. I have a wardrobe of sun hats I wear through the spring and summer months. In fact I have cupboard full of various hats. They cover up bad hair days! 😍

Yep, I wear hats for the same reason. Early baldness runs in my family, and I don't want to end up like my grandfather, spending decades in doctor's offices having the skin carved off my head due to cancer formation.

I do enjoy the flat caps from Ireland too!

In the early 1900's I believe everybody wore a hat of some sort. Until the first automobile came out. Because people couldn't wear their hats while driving in their new model-T, it slowly faded away. Thus the death of the mad hatters.

Yep, you look at the old photos and men's heads were all covered.

The car killed it.

I'm slowly coming to that view. If restaurants won't provide a safe place for hats, it should be OK for them to stay on. But, it's an awfully hard view to accept given that mother would have certainly whacked us had we worn a hat at the dinner table!
